2004 Fall – Big Ten - Popcorn Sale

Popcorn Sale Summary

To all of those who did so well on the Popcorn sale, especially to the 114 Scouts who sold over $1,000 worth of popcorn, congratulations!  The total gross sale for the 200 units selling was over $805,000 (a 6% increase over last year).  That gives $242,000 in commission for units to spend on program, plus an additional $58,000 in prizes and bonuses to Scouts and Units.  Some units qualified for a 5% bonus by having a 25% increase in sales over last year, attending the kickoff, and settling on time.  That figure doesn’t include the gift certificates from Trails End for $1,000 sellers or the college scholarship program for $2,000 sellers where Trails End puts 6% of the Scout’s gross sale in a trust fund for the Scouts post-secondary education, and they continue to do it each year the Scout sells popcorn after qualifying for the program.  THANK YOU to everyone who made this sale our best ever!

Due to the large amount of Show and Sell product returned, we have a surplus of Kettle Corn Microwave and Light Microwave product that we cannot return.  We are now asking each unit to help us sell this product by taking at least 3 cases of Kettle Corn and 1 case of Light (we appreciate any additional you can sell).  We are offering 60% commission ($12 of the $20 selling price) for the Kettle Corn, and 50% commission ($7.50 of the $15 selling price) for the Light.  We plan to have both products available for you at tonight's Take Order distribution, with more available at your request through the Service Center.  We will bill you in January for the cases ($48 cost per case of Kettle Corn - that's $72 profit, and $45 cost per case of Light - that's $45 profit), and we ask that there are no returns.  Thanks for your help in making our inventory challenge a win-win situation!

If you have any questions or to order Kettle Corn or Light Microwave, please contact Stacy (574-289-0337 or 800-822-3867 or scummins@lasallecouncilbsa.org)

Fall Popcorn Sale Info

Fall Popcorn Sale Signup & Timeline (pdf)

This year’s sale will feature two brand new products, an 18 Pack Kettle Corn (100% Kettle Corn) selling for $20, and a Chocolate Lovers Tin containing 5 different items (Chocolate Covered Peanuts, Chocolate & White Chocolate Caramel Crunch, and Chocolate & White Chocolate Covered Pretzels) selling for $50. Five products remain the same: the 3 Way Tin (Gourmet Cheddar Cheese Corn, Chocolate Caramel Crunch, and Gourmet Caramel Corn w/ Almonds and Pecans) selling for $40; the 30 pack Microwave Variety Pack containing a 6 Pack each of 5 exciting flavors selling for $30 (Kettle Corn, Kettle Corn Light, Unbelievable Butter, Butter and Butter Light); the Cheese Lovers Tin (3 bags of Gourmet Cheddar Cheese Corn) for $25; and the 24oz. Chocolate Caramel Crunch and 28oz. Gourmet Caramel Corn w/ Almonds and Pecans each selling for $15. Butter and Butter Light microwave products are being expanded to 18 packs that sell for $15. Each of these microwave products will be a better value per microwave pouch for the consumer. The 12oz. Caramel Corn with Peanuts tin will sell for $8.

The sale includes 10 products, 7 price levels, and one commission percentage for your Unit. Your Unit will again earn 30% of the gross sale (see popcorn booklet for specifics) and your Scout’s prizes remain at a value of 6%. Show and Sell orders are due by 9/10, and product pickup is 9/24. Popcorn Super Saturday happens on 10/30 (Unsold Show & Sell popcorn must be physically returned, Popcorn "Take Order" orders due, Prize Orders due, Show & Sell settlement money due), Take order popcorn distribution is 11/19, all popcorn money & turned in to Council office by December Roundtable (12/9 or 14). Come to your district’s popcorn kickoff for details.

Studies show that 70% of doors we knock on will purchase product, and that the most efficient way to sell is a "Show and Deliver" method of having the product on hand to deliver while we take orders.

The prize program this year will be a Trail’s End program which will include gift certificate options. We will also offer a "Scout Bucks" option to Troops if they want to allow boys to earn money for camps and activities. We are continuing the early bird prize program for youth salesman (we will award an early bird prize to the first 60 youth who fax in a completed order form during the fall sale).  We’ve added a Bicycle Prize Drawing in each district (a $125 Wal-Mart Gift Certificate the scout can use for a bicycle, a scooter, camping equipment, or another prize) the scout will be entered for each full order form completed as Show & Deliver faxed in (only valid after 9/24 and if the scout’s unit is doing Show & Deliver).  We will be sending a mailing with the letter, take order form and prize brochure to all registered youth this month.

If your Unit achieves a 25% increase in gross sales over last year, you will receive an additional 5% of gross sales as a bonus* (*You must attend your District’s kickoff and settle on time.). Any Units not selling in 2003 who sell this year can also qualify for the bonus.

 *  Unit popcorn chairman who sign up their units by August 27 will be awarded an attractive new Trail’s End custom designed ball cap.
